Ingredients
- 1lb mushrooms
- 5T butter
- 2T flour
- 1 can condensed beef broth
- 1 slice (1/2") onion
- 2 bay leaves
- 1/2 t basil leaves, crumbled
- 1/4 t salt
- 1/8 t ground white pepper
- 3 cups milk or light cream
Instructions
- Clean and dry mushrooms
- In large saucepan, heat 4tb of the butter
- Add mushrooms and saute over high heat until browned
- Remove and set aside
- In same saucepan, heat remaining 1T butter; stir in flour
- Gradually add broth
- Add onion, bay leaves, basil, salt and pepper
- Cook and stir until thickened. Add milk
- Cook over low heat 8 minutes, stirring occasionally (do not boil)
- Remove onion and bay leaves, return mushrooms to pan
- Heat and serve
